Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 June 2026
This policy explains what personal data the Walls mobile app collects, why we collect it, who processes it on our behalf, and the choices you have — including how to delete your account and data. It applies to the Walls app on iOS and Android, which share the same backend.
In this policy, "Walls", "we", "us", and "our" refer to walls bln GmbH, Friedrichstraße 155, 10117 Berlin, Germany — the company that operates the Walls app and is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at any time at hello@walls.link.
The short version
- We collect your name, email, and a user ID to run your account, plus usage and crash data to keep the app working.
- If you publish content, the photos you upload are stored and shown in the app.
- Your device location is used only on your device to center the map — it is not sent to us or stored.
- We use Google Firebase and Mapbox to operate the app. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone for their own purposes.
- You can delete your account and data at any time by emailing hello@walls.link.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
| Data | When / why | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | When you create an account or sign in with Google. Used to identify and secure your account. | Required |
| Name | If you add it to your profile. Shown on your profile and on content you publish. | Optional |
| Photos & images | Creator features only. When you add exhibition images, or capture an artwork "keywork" image, those photos are uploaded and become public content in the app. | Optional |
| Profile & content | Favorites, galleries or fairs you claim, and other content you create in the app. | Optional |
Information collected automatically
| Data | What it is | Tool |
|---|---|---|
| User & installation IDs | A Firebase user ID (UID) for your account, plus app-instance and installation identifiers used for analytics and crash reporting. | Firebase |
| App activity | Screens viewed, features used, and the search terms you enter in the app, used to understand and improve usage. | Firebase Analytics (GA4) |
| Crash & diagnostics | Crash reports, error logs, and basic device/OS information (e.g. device model, OS version) so we can fix problems. | Firebase Crashlytics |
Location
With your permission, Walls uses your device location to center the map and show galleries near you. Your location is used only on your device for this purpose — it is not transmitted to our servers, not stored, and not shared. You can deny or revoke the location permission in your device settings; the rest of the app continues to work.
2. How we use your data
- To create and secure your account and sign you in.
- To provide core features: discovering galleries and exhibitions, favorites, search, and — for creators — publishing galleries, fairs, exhibitions, and artwork images.
- To send the in-app "Notify-Me" reminders you opt into for exhibitions.
- To understand how the app is used and to improve it.
- To detect, diagnose, and fix crashes and bugs.
3. Who processes your data
We use a small number of trusted service providers ("processors") who handle data on our behalf and under our instructions. We do not give them permission to use your data for their own purposes.
| Provider | Role |
|---|---|
| Google Firebase | Authentication (sign-in), Cloud Firestore (your profile and content), Cloud Storage (uploaded images), Analytics (GA4), and Crashlytics (crash reporting). Operated by Google. |
| Mapbox | Renders the in-app map. We have disabled Mapbox's optional analytics/telemetry, so map usage is not collected for analytics. |
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own advertising or marketing. Data may be disclosed if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Walls and its users.
4. Data sharing & public content
Some information is public by design. Your profile name and any galleries, exhibitions, fairs, or artwork images you publish are visible to other Walls users. Please don't upload images or details you don't want to be public.
5. Data retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. Content you publish remains in the app as part of the gallery and exhibition record unless you ask us to remove it. When you delete your account, we delete your personal account data as described below. Crash and analytics data is retained for a limited period in line with Firebase's default retention settings.
6. Account & data deletion
You can ask us to delete your account and the personal data associated with it at any time. See our data deletion page for full details, or follow the steps below.
- Email hello@walls.link with the subject "Delete my account", from the email address on your account.
- We will delete your account, profile, and associated personal data within 30 days and confirm once it's done.
- Public content you created may be removed or anonymized. Some records may be retained where we are legally required to keep them.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including the EU/EEA and UK under the GDPR), you have the right to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@walls.link. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
8. Security & data transfers
All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Our processors (Google and Mapbox) operate global infrastructure, so your data may be processed in countries outside your own, including the United States. These providers maintain recognized safeguards for such transfers.
9. Children's privacy
Walls is a general-audience app and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at hello@walls.link and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, provide notice in the app. Continued use of Walls after an update means you accept the revised policy.
